Overview
Wake Train offers a refined, dark-mode interface designed for train passengers who want to nap during their journey without worrying about missing their stop. This redesign emphasizes ease of use, visual clarity, and reassurance for the user.
A major visual improvement includes the shift from a violet to a green accent color, chosen for its psychological association with safety, calmness, and clarity. The green tone stands out strongly in dark environments, ensuring high visibility and readability—ideal for nighttime or tunnel travel. The UI has also been optimized for accessibility, following WCAG guidelines to support users with mild visual impairments or color blindness.
Originally conceived as a UX exercise, this redesign showcases structured thinking, effective problem-solving, and usability-driven solutions. The workflow includes user research, wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity interface development.

Mission
Wake Train was designed with a clear mission: to help passengers rest during train rides without the anxiety of missing their destination. Through a user-centered approach, the app provides a visually calming experience, quick setup options, and live travel tracking—reducing stress and improving the journey. This project also served as an opportunity to refine core UX skills, from ideation to high-fidelity prototyping.
Challenges Faced
Defining the Right Visual Tone – Replacing violet with green enhanced the sense of safety, calm, and reassurance, aligning the brand identity with user needs.
Designing for Low-Light Environments – Green accents offer strong contrast against dark UI elements, improving readability at night or in tunnels.
Balancing Speed and Flexibility – Implemented both preset and custom timers to serve casual travelers and experienced commuters.
Improving Navigation for Commuters – Added a list of recent trips to speed up the alert setup for frequent users.
Live Tracking Integration – Embedded a map view to help users stay oriented and feel in control throughout their ride.
Ensuring Inclusive Design – UI elements were tested for accessibility compliance, with attention to color contrast and intuitive interactions.
